Drake Bay and the Osa Peninsula is one of the most unique fishing destinations in the world. We are located near several river mouths and the famous Caño Island is just 12 miles from our home port. Over 40 International Game Fish Association (IGFA) records have been set within 80 nautical miles of Drake Bay. The island has a massive reef system that provides great bottom fishing and trolling opportunities. Our offshore fishing is usually 15-25 miles from shore but with the range of the Reel Escape, we go to where the fish are, even if that means over 25 miles. Thankfully the waters around Drake Bay are usually calm with a light chop which provides a pleasant ride. Because of the variety of waters, we are able to customize each trip based on the type of fishing and species desired. We cast top water poppers, jig the bottom for big Cubera Snappers and Grouper and fish with live bait for Roosterfish. Offshore we troll for big pelagic fish including Blue, Black and Striped Marlin, Pacific Sailfish, Mahi-Mahi, Yellow Fin, Wahoo and Big Eye Tuna. At the client’s request, we can also fly fish for these species.

Fish Drake Bay is located 50 miles south of Quepos/Manuel Antonio on the northern end of the world famous Corcovado National Park in the Osa Peninsula.
We are partners with all the top lodges. We have 2 boats to choose from, Reel Escape– a luxury 35 ft. CABO Sportfishing Yacht & the Reel Time- a 26 ft. walk around center console. We welcome all fishermen from professionals to families with children.

The Perfect Surrounding
Drake Bay is located in one of the most beautiful, unspoiled places on earth, the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica near Corcovado National Park. Because of its proximity to the famous Furuno Banks, Caño Island reef and numerous river mouths we offer our clients many fishing options with our sport fishing charter trips in Drake Bay, CR.
The surrounding waters here are generally very calm, the water can even have a “glassy” appearance at times. Because of our location, our clients have a wide variety of species to choose from. Where and what we catch is also dependent on the season, weather patterns, tides and phase of the moon, but generally we offer four “types” of fishing opportunities. It may be possible to do a “combination trip” on a full day charter.
If you are staying on the southern end of the Osa Peninsula near Puerto Jimenez, Matapalo or Golfito, we have several captains we have partnered with. We can offer half day, full day and even overnight FAD trips for Marlin. The boats available range from 24-45 feet. Fish Drake Bay will handle the reservations and payment for your charter.
Drinks and fruit are included on all trips. A home cooked lunch is provided on a full day trip.
The Boats
Fish Drake Bay is the only full time professional sport fishing operation in the Drake Bay area. Fishing is all we do; and because we concentrate solely on fishing, we know what’s biting and where. We have the newest and best sport fishing yachts, the Reel Escape and the Reel Time available for charter.
Both boats have only the highest quality equipment on board such as Penn, Shimano and diamond braided line. Both boats also have built in live wells and the latest Garmin Satellite Technology. Regardless of which boat you choose, our experienced bilingual Captain Willy Atencio and Mates will ensure you have a wonderful and safe day on the water.
The Reel Escape is a meticulously maintained, high-end American made, 35 foot CABO Sport Fishing Yacht powered by twin 450 hp CAT diesel engines. The boat is fully equipped for your safety and comfort while taking you quickly to the best fishing grounds in the area.
This legendary CABO design is constructed on a modified V-hull with a wide beam and a shallow keel providing a soft ride. She features a hull with small propeller pockets and clean underwater lines that creates two ideal trolling alleys behind the transom, greatly increasing the number of strikes.

Protecting our environment
The Captain and mates of the Reel Escape & Reel Time practice ‘catch & release’ for sailfish, marlin, roosterfish and other species. This ensures that future generations will be able to enjoy this wonderful experience as well as protecting these species.
We use circle hooks that are designed to catch the fish in the corner of their mouth and do the least amount of harm to the fish. We also do not bring Billfish in the boat for a picture as recent studies have shown this could cause damage to the fish.
We only keep fish that our clients wish to eat. As part of our commitment to the local community we provide any additional fresh fish, free of charge, to the people in the small village of Drake Bay. We also support the local school and the many fundraisers in the village. We make our living on the water so there is nothing more important to us than ecotourism and protecting our environment.
