Gerardo Lopez, well known as Lalo, is the owner of Lalo Tours; he gave us a warm welcome to a day of adventure.
Don Lalo and his guide have broad experience guiding tours around the picturesque village of Ojochal. All their horses are healthy, strong, and tamed.
As always, safety is first: After finding out about our experience with horses, they introduced each animal by its name, and gave us advice on how to manage it and treat it.
Then the tour to the waterfall began; we got the chance to know the village all the way to the foot of the mountain where we found the Ojochal waterfall.
On the tour, not only will you ride; you will get to see a variety of what nature has to offer, with many plants and trees growing specifically in the mountain range. Lalo will be glad to tell you more; he is very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of Costa Rica. You will also see impressive valley and mountain views of primary forest, and those of the South Pacific Ocean.
What an exquisite waterfall, and what a refreshing pond here people can swim! There we had the chance to freshen up and enjoy the pure air in the middle of the virgin forest in the heights of the village. We also learned about cacao planting and its use.
On our way back home, we passed by an Ojoche tree, and we learned about its importance for the village of Ojochal. Close to the Ojoche tree we saw another specie: the "Baco" tree, it produces a liquid similar to like milk which is excellent to cure stomach diseases.
When we crossed the river, the horses drank some water while we admired an impressive 300-year-old Ceiba tree.
We ended our tour with a delicious Tico-style lunch at Lalo´s Place where we enjoyed the family environment and the view of the beautiful tropical garden.
