The dry leaves contain 15 times more potassium than bananas, 10 times more vitamin-A than carrots, 25 times more iron than spinach, and 17 times more calcium than milk. It also prevents the growth of certain pathogenic bacteria.
The moringa oil is extracted from the seeds, and it is high-quality oil used to control the cholesterol level. The fruit has the same anti-cholesterol properties.
The pods and leaves are known for their diuretic properties, and are prescribed in cases of hypertension, high cholesterol, plasma lipids, and cardiovascular disorders. Both pods and the leaves are rich in essential amino acids, calcium, and vitamins, additionally; they have the capacity to purify and detoxify water due to its anti-fungal and anti-bactericidal properties.
The moringa is a fast-growing, drought-resistant tree, native to northwestern India, and widely cultivated in tropical and sub-tropical areas and recently introduced in Costa Rica.
