The boat was waiting for us at Golfito’s dock where we boarded Captain Alan’s boat to cross the serene waters of Golfo Dulce to a large bay surrounded by tall palm trees.
The Playa Cativo Lodge´s staff spread a small portable bridge in front of us, what we considered the "red carpet," and that allowed us to get off the boat without getting our feet wet. The whole staff led by manager Luis Pardo was there welcoming us.
The main lodge and the bungalows are beautifully built from native wood. Our room was spacious, tastefully decorated, fresh, and very comfortable. Both the view of the Gulf and the large gardens covered with dazzling vegetation, are exquisite.
The candlelight dinner in the Gavilán restaurant was very romantic. The dishes are always prepared with fresh produce from the hotel's farm; this feature allowed Chef Víctor to delight us with his superb Costa rican recipes and fie wine; in the morning, after having a delicious cup of coffee, guide Mario gave us a tour around the hotel and through the peccaries´ valley. We spotted monkeys, tayras, one raccoon, and countless birds.
When we returned, a delicious breakfast with fresh juices was waiting for us. We did not want to leave; however, our flight was scheduled for that morning. There is so much to see and experience, i recommend you stay for at least two nights. i want to return, and stand up paddle the Golfo. We felt at home with friends; the service was excellent, and we received many authentic friendly smiles.
