RANCHO REMO LODGE & GUSTO, Playa Hermosa
By Dagmar Reinhard
If you never had a meal at Gusto Italian Restaurant or slept at Rancho Remo Lodge, you are truly missing something. The owners Luca and Francesca and their dog Zoe welcome us in their place. As soon as we arrived, we get crazy about the view, the ocean, the beautiful Playa Hermosa Beach, and the famous Whale Tail.
They moved here five years ago from a little city in Italy called Viterbo. Almost three years ago, they opened their restaurant Gusto. Eating here means having a truly Italian experience in the jungle. Food is made from scratch to guarantee freshness and quality.
Luca and Francesca are almost obsessed with quality. They carefully select suppliers for imported stuff. They have a great selection of Italian wines. Pasta, bread, and sauces are handmade. Locally they buy fresh organic vegetables and fresh fish caught the same day.
The menu offers many choices of the best Italian cuisine dishes and some vegetarian and gluten-free options too. Definitely for the clients, “it seems to be in Italy.” When the diners acknowledge this, it is the best reward for the effort and work of the Gusto team.
Adjacent to the restaurant, are the well-equipped Cabinas Rancho Remo Lodge. You can enjoy spectacular views from the lovely rooms. There are five rooms, three ocean views with a king-size and two mountain views with a queen-size bed.
Each room has a balcony, and when you have an oceanview cabin, you can enjoy epic sunset and sunrise, or watch the toucans flying steps from you. The ocean sound is a miraculous lullaby to sleep.
On the mountainside, you will hear the ocean and jungle sounds that will relax you as never before. Waking up in this environment is priceless.
You will enjoy breakfast in the restaurant overlooking the ocean and surrounded by wildlife and nature. Breakfast has many choices, and everything is homemade.
If you plan visiting Uvita and surrounding this place is perfect for a romantic escape, sleeping here is amazing, and the restaurant is a must.
The restaurant is open every day from 12 to 8 pm.
Please make your reservation. We observe all hygienic measures, following the protocols of the Ministry of Health.

Travel and Service Guide Magazine #76, South Pacific Costa Rica
During 2020, Ballena Tales Travel and Service Guide Magazine has published numerous uplifting, constructive, and thought-provoking articles on nature, people’s initiatives, or a healthy lifestyle. Our contributing authors are members of our community, business owners, and individuals with deep knowledge and love of the South Pacific, thus creating an oasis of inspiration and well-being for you to enjoy.

Alma de Ojochal Hotel
The Alma De Ojochal Hotel is, as the name says, “the soul of Ojochal” and is in tune with the spirit of Pura Vida on the South Western coast of Costa Rica. Here you will have the feeling of enjoying life to the fullest, embracing experience and adventure in a very relaxed atmosphere.

Ventanas Beach
What a beautiful spot. You will now understand why people love this secluded beach, surrounded by lush rainforest and lined with palm trees. It mostly has calm waves. The shallow waters are safe for children (always under their parents’ observation and paying attention to the lifeguards’ alerts.)

How YOU can help the local economy
Indeed, most of the Costa Ballena region is dependent on tourism. Given that as the background, we hear from our homeowners, clients, and the social media channels: What can we do to help with the local economy?

Where does your native timber come from?
Most of the construction on the Costa Ballena and Osa Peninsula is done by hotels and second-home builders drawn by the lush rainforest. Native timber feels like an obvious choice: who doesn’t love a handcrafted Cristobal door’s luxury?

In Osa the history travels by bicycle
It is an exhibition with identity, designed by and for the inhabitants of the Osa Canton. It is a temporary exhibition “In Osa history travels by bicycle,” which you can admire at the Finca 6 Museum site, in Palmar Sur.

The Strange Behavior of a Gang of Teenage Monkeys
The whole gang of teenage monkeys turned tail, ran for the fig tree, scuffled for a position, and ascended to the crown. Once safe from the mother raccoon, they seemed to lose interest in her, like a person trying to forget an embarrassing incident and pretending it never happened. The monkeys returned to their vagrant behavior, and mama continued about her business with her cubs at her side.

Typical Week in the Life of a Dog and Cat Rescue Organization
DAWG is a Dog and Cat Rescue Organization, provided food, a medicated shampoo, vet care, a crate and a puppy pen.
Another week went by, and another puppy showed up at the property beside the hotel, so then there were five puppies!!!

Costa Rican Banknotes are Beautiful
The Costa Rican banknotes are quite beautiful! All of them pay tribute to the people who made significant contributions to Costa Rica’s history on the front, with the reverse showing the biodiversity with representations of plants, ecosystems, and animals such as sloths, hummingbirds, and sharks.
