Fractional plasma is a skin rejuvenation treatment used to improve various skin conditions like fine lines, stretch marks, and scars from acne or surgery, minimize visible pores and smoothen the skin making the texture more uniform. This technology is one of the newer ways to rejuvenate your skin without necessarily going under the knife or enduring days and days of healing or side effects. Previous technology for skin resurfacing included lasers or deep chemical or mechanical peels. Fractional lasers were another option, but all these involved redness, raw skin, prolonged healing, and downtime. All these treatments initiate the body's response, force it to heal, and in the process, create collagen and elastin, proteins that form part of the matrix of the skin. Fractional plasma is a new technology that has excellent effects on the skin while it has minimal side effects and downtime, like minor redness for a day or two. It is a cutting-edge technology that combines a targeted treatment like a fractional laser using an excited gas that creates plasma energy. This technology targets the most superficial layer of the skin, causing regeneration and skin retraction, combined with a diathermic contraction that uses radio frequency to treat the deeper layers and muscles to tighten the skin, lifting the tissues. This combination therapy is a great non-surgical option for rejuvenation for men and women of any age. Younger patients can be interested in using this as a preventative option for their skincare, while others might view it as a more corrective approach to their skin issues. It is an excellent treatment; combine it with injectables like dermal fillers or botulinum toxin. More than one session is commonly required, depending on the initial condition of the skin and the expected results. Fractional plasma is also an excellent option for non-surgical rejuvenation of the eyelids since it causes skin contraction, lifting the eyelids. It can be used to treat the lines around the mouth or smoker's lips or the lines around the eyes or crow's feet. Treatment areas are not limited to the face; this treatment can be performed on the neck, chest, arms, and abdomen, anywhere you need your skin tightened or remodeled. Unlike other techniques, nothing foreign is added to your body, so the body's response to the treatment is always positive. A comprehensive consultation will give you a good idea of the range of treatments and help determine better expectations. |

The mangrove forest and its massive maze and the intertwining of trees and roots is considered to be a critical component acting to subdue tidal surge, reduce erosion, provide opportunities for recreation and serve as nurseries for fisheries.

Back to the Earth
In each magazine edition, writers often relate to a topic relevant to the particular timing of the publication. Unfortunately, we are all writing with heavy hearts about the loss of Dagmar in this issue. Her vibrant personality and dedication to this magazine will surely be missed.

An unforgettable Tour to Caño Island
I had the opportunity to take a Caño Island tour. Since I was a little kid, I have loved swimming in the ocean and looking out for all the sea creatures.

The Bees – a Beautiful Example
In Costa Rica, we have over 50 species of bees. From the Apis melifera (an introduced species), to many others that have co-evolved with native plants.

Path of the Tapir Biological Corridor
Birth of the environmental movement in Costa Ballena.
At the beginning of the last century, tapirs, jaguars, white-lipped peccary, red brocket deer, harpy eagles, giant anteaters, and others wandered freely through the forests in the area that today is known as the Costa Ballena and the Path of the Tapir Biological Corridor.
