Forjando Alas – kids’ programs

By Courtney Fletcher

Thanks to the support from the U.S. Embassy, we are taking ‘Forjando Alas kids’ programs to the next level. Finishing up a very successful summer camp in January, and in February we opened the center full-time for Uvita students. Our programs offer lessons in English, environment, art, and technology. We aim to help the kids of Uvita by improving self-confidence, preparing them for their professional life, and teaching them values for a brighter future.

In July, we will host a professional reading instructor from Jacksonville University to conduct literacy workshops for any local teacher who is interested. Translation will be provided.

Also, this June and July we will welcome groups of students from the U.S. as a mean of sustaining our program. Our goals are to do more of these real-life exchange programs every year, purchase a piece of land, and build a community center with a library, computer lab, and a playground, to benefit the people of Uvita. If you would like more information, or if you wish to volunteer, look into our page in Facebook.
