Dear readers
We are dedicating the last issue of this year 2014 to the wildlife in Costa Ballena.Jack Ewing from Hacienda Barú, observes that wildlife in the area is recovering after being threatened for many years by the loss of habitat (page 10). Photographer Paul Gerace has made a new lazy friend (page 22). Trevor Brown (Costa Rica Surf Realty) goes on surfing with the big fish (page 28). Biologist Susana García (Biological Station Huén Tebec) tells us about the spider monkey (page 34), and Oscar Brenes, the director of Playa Tortuga Reserve, writes about Turtle 260 breaking the protocol (page 62).
Great news is the upcoming opening of Alturas Animal Sanctuary between Dominical and Uvita (middle pages).
In this edition we are celebrating Christmas with you, sharing the greeting received for the occasion from Chef Victor Castañeda: his tasty “Christmas in Cahuita” recipe (page42). And, we wish you the best of happiness in 2015, toasting with a “Matapalo Surprise”, created by Josué Arroyo (page 27).
Once again, we visited Saúl Mora Morales, artist and teacher; he made clear that the actors involved in the dances held by the indigenous peoples of the South Pacific, are CabrúVróje and not devils (page 66).
Finally, together with Ifigenia Quintanilla, the Costa Rican spheres’ expert, we visited the town of Curré, the day the three spheres arrived (page 68).
At the end of this special year, I want to wish you on behalf of Ballena Tales Editorial Team a very happy holiday season and a harmonious New Year 2015.
