The golden hour – Playa Hermosa – Costa Ballena de Osa – Costa Rica

Playa Hermosa, located at km 157 on the Costanera is 3 km north of Uvita and it lives up to it’s Spanish name, Hermosa, meaning beautiful. It is a tropical beach with amazing scenery, bordered by a densely forested reef on the North side, Punta Achiote, and on the South end, by the mouth of the Morete River. It is habitat to all kinds of wildlife, especially…alligators!

Playa Hermosa is very popular with surfers. It is good for beginner to intermediate level surfers, as the waves are less powerful than those found at Dominical beach. There are dangerous currents; it is recommended going swimming preferably with a companion.

It is a beautiful experience to walk on this unspoiled beach overlooking the famous Widow Island. If you are hungry there are fruit stands and ceviche stands at the main entrance, almost year round. Bring a hammock, this beach has lots of shade and is a great beach for family fun! Sundays are always busy, so get there early to find a great spot.
