The “Ojochal Community Food Bank” is pleased to announce “Phase One” of our community gardens!
This community garden has been planted on the land loaned to us by Jesús Jiménez. It is located near Cabinas Tortuga, on the road to the Lookout Hotel, just north of the Ojochal entrance.
A group of dedicated volunteers working together have prepared and planted long-term indigenous crops such as yucca (manioc), cassava, camote (sweet potato), pineapple, assorted fruit trees, ayote (butternut squash), bananas, plantain as well as other food crops. The produce from this garden (orchard) will be donated to the people who have helped and worked in this garden, and to the people in our community who are in need of the Food Bank’s services.
The Food Bank Committee wants to thank the Ojochal ADI (Development Association), Lalo López, and Carlos Herrera for their support; and all the volunteers who came out and worked so hard to plan, dig, plant, and nurture our community garden to ensure it will produce wholesome, healthful food for the years to come!
We appreciate all your assistance!
