Infant Privilege in Dominical

AUTHOR: COMITÉ PLAYGROUND

What in some countries is perceived as a basic service for the children's community, in Costa Rica can become a privilege. Privilege because many people struggle to obtain it and give up on the road, privilege because it is more an exception than the general rule. In Dominical it became a reality, persistence and will won the game.

And so the story of the new Dominical playground begins: three years ago, when the Lord Mayor of Osa receives a local mom in his office with a request and a dream. Backed with letters of support, more than 400 signatures and a blueprint, she requested a children's play area for Dominical Beach.

It has been a long time from that day when the project was verbally approved until today, that Dominical shelters a beautiful children playground. After multiple conversations, going to the Municipality, changes in the project, the promise was finally fulfilled. Right now, on the beach of Dominical, overlooking the sea and under the shade of the trees you will find children playing and laughing all day. The community has appropriated this playground so fast, it seems that it has always been there.

And the project does not end here. The inauguration and a campaign to obtain more funds were recently made. The goal was reached and $ 4,000 were collected. This sum is intended to increase the level of sand for safety, add tables, benches and garbage cans, include structures for the little ones, work the landscaping and live fences. A surveillance camera will also be installed, monitoring from a nearby area.

This project is a privilege for our children and will be even more so if we know how to take care of it and beautify it.
The dream of the local mother has become true and she believes that this park will last many years and that it is only the beginning of what as a community we can offer our children!
