Car Tips: Brake System

carOne of the most important elements in a car is its brake system. It is therefore, of vital importance to review periodically, and provide preventive maintenance to avoid any mishaps, or even worse, unwanted accidents.

Brake fluid: Check at least once a month that the brake fluid is at the right level. If your level is below normal, do not just fill it, as the main causes of fluid loss are low fiber or brake system leaks; therefore, you may want to address promptly both issues. We recommend replacing it at least once a year, or every 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Brake pads or brake shoes: These should be inspected at least every three or four months, that way; you can evaluate if the thickness is safe, if they are wearing, and of course, will prevent other problems.

Emergency brakes: In most vehicles, the emergency brake or parking brake works with the rear brakes. Its operation can also tell if the vehicle needs service.

Hydraulic brakes: Make sure in every inspection, someone carefully reviews the caliper and brake pumps (main and auxiliary).

Keep in mind there are several issues requiring continuous attention. Being diligent and taking care of each one of the issues on time, will ensure a well-functioning brake system, and of course, will guarantee your safety.
