“For it is in giving that we receive.” – Francis of Assisi
Every year, as we approach the holiday season, families gather together to celebrate with festive decorations, feasts and fiestas, and often, an exchange of gifts. What is easy to forget during these times of celebration is the fact that there are families in our community that are struggling just to bring food to the table for their kids.
Last year, the Ojochal Community Food Bank, with the help of generous donations from local residents, was able to brighten the Christmas time for five families in the village. Fifteen children between the ages of eight months and 14 years received a new outfit, a toy, or school supplies. Each school kid received new shoes. In addition, each family received a food basket containing all the ingredients required to make tamales for their Christmas dinner.
We are fortunate to be part of a community where people join efforts to spread joy and happiness to others.
