Dermal fillers.  Dermal fillers, hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite, are used to fill wrinkles, expression lines, scars, and other imperfections on the face, chest, and other areas.  Also commonly used to replenish volume on areas of the face and hands that make aging very obvious.

Fat grafting.  Autologous fat, which is fat from your own body, is commonly used as a filler to minimize wrinkles and add volume.  This 100% natural rejuvenation technique is very popular because it presents no possibility of allergy or rejection from the body.  An excellent option for the nasolabial folds, cheeks, and hands.  This fat can also be used to extract stem cells to be used for dermal rejuvenation, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, improving the overall quality of the skin, minimizing lines, wrinkles, pores, discoloration, among others. latelet Rich Plasma.  Another treatment that is 100% natural and that minimizes expression lines and regenerates devitalized tissues using a product from your own body.  Improves skin tone, texture, firmness.  It is injected in nasolabial folds, the contour of the eyes, corners of the mouth, frown lines, neck, décolleté, and hands.  Also used on the scalp as an efficient way to strengthen the hair follicle.  It also improves the appearance of acne scars. The treatment stimulates fibroblasts and the production of neo-collagen, as well as elastin.  These proteins, activated by platelets and growth factors firm and revitalize the skin.

Micro-needling.  This fractional dermabrasion technique stimulates collagen production and enhances penetration of different active ingredients that nourish and moisturize the skin, while improving texture, minimizing spots, pores, and overall quality.  The use of a micro-needling device, Dermapen, treats devitalized skin, wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, even keloid or hypertrophic scars, smoothening and lightening the appearance of the skin.

Fractional Dermabrasion with Radiofrequency. This radiofrequency treatment not only increases temperature, blood flow, oxygenation, and metabolism in the skin but also works on texture.  It stimulates collagen and forces the skin to regenerate the treated tissue, improving texture, spots, scarring.  Can be used anywhere on the body and face, commonly face, neck, chest, hands.  Best results come after a series of 3 to 4 treatments.

Mesotherapy dermal Rejuvenation. Mesotherapy technique offers a deep renovation of the texture of the skin as well as the application of nutrients to regenerate and rejuvenate.  Deep hydration with hyaluronic acid, collagen stimulation with vitamin C, and an ATP complex that energizes your skin.

Mesotherapy fat reduction. Mesotherapy technique also allows for the application of components that “melt” fat improving the contour of the body and the face.  Submental fat pockets or “double chin” can be treated by the injection of different active ingredients.  Other areas that can be treated are the jowls and bags under the eyes.  The contour of the body, abdomen, thighs, arms can be treated as well.

Chemical peel.  A chemical peel is a technique that produces a chemical exfoliation of the skin with the use of pure acids.  Different depths are performed with no important side effects, no redness, no flaking or shedding of the skin.  This medically performed treatment improves skin texture, acne and acne scarring, stretch marks,  hyperpigmentation, and fine lines.  Best results with a series of monthly treatments.

YOU’VE GOT TO BE TOUGH TO BE AN AGOUTI

When you’re walking through the rainforest and surprise an animal that goes bouncing through the undergrowth emitting panicked, bark-like grunts with every bounce, you’ve certainly startled a Central American Agouti (Dasysyprocta punctata). After 20 years of living here, I finally saw one standing still. Once the hunting was under control on Hacienda Barú National Wildlife Refuge, their fear of humans diminished considerably.

Veganism is on the rise – and it is far more than a food trend!

It leads to a lifestyle based on sustainability and compassion.
The three pillars of veganism are:

1. Compassion for all animals (i.e. an understanding that there is no difference between a chicken or a dog, a calf, or a cat).
2. The concern and care for environmental issues (i.e. massive land use and pollution caused by life stock farming, pesticides, antibiotics, etc.); and
3. The positive effects on health (i.e., low cholesterol, no lactose intolerance, a pure conscience, etc.).
