The tour departs from the Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary, just above the Villas Alturas Hotel. It is a one and a half hours tour.
Minimum donation is $25 for adults and $15 for kids under 12. The minimum donation for nationals is $20 per adult and $10 for kids under 12.
You will meet Gomar, the anteater whose mother was killed by a dog and get to see Blossom; a small porcupine that was found half dead and is now, after months of rehabilitation again as lively as its neighbors, the squirrels. You will see spider monkeys, white-faced monkeys, coatis, and hundreds of birds that were injured or freed from captivity and confiscated by The Environment, Energy and Telecommunications, government ministry of Costa Rica (MINAET), and now a team of professionals is taking care of them.

Wildlife sanctuary’s mission is to help preserve wildlife in southern Costa Rica through its rescue, rehabilitation, and reintroduction to the wild; it also provides a home to animals unable to return to its natural habitat due to permanent disability or excessive domestication.
The Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary receives wild animals through its partnership with government entities such as MINAET and SINAC (Costa Rica´s official government wildlife care offices).
Another goal of the sanctuary is to educate and foster the appreciation for the wildlife. Through the interaction with the educational system, the sanctuary expects to promote the development of the next generation of biologists, veterinarians, naturalists, and ecologists. Read related post >>>
