Vida Auténtica organic market in Tinamastes South Pacific Costa Rican Region, is already one-year-old! It took an entire community, every farmer, every vendor, and every customer to create the amazing vibration that has taken our market into the growing success we all enjoy every Tuesday.
The first Roots Initiative took place three years ago when a group of seven local “campesinos” from Las Tumbas, received the first class in organic farming and learned the health benefits of an organic lifestyle. All of them are successful graduated from the course.
Many of the Vida Auténtica-sponsored greenhouses were assembled at that time, and put into productive use. By the end of 2013, the gardens were producing more than expected, and the group became enthusiastic about the idea of turning that excess into sustainable income.
The vision was brought to reality and held by Melissa Sweet and her husband Kevin O’Neill. At the beginning of 2014, over sixty participants were signed up for the upcoming Roots-classes. By then, the idea was almost fully developed.
On February 4, 2014, the Tinamastes organic market was born, opening for the first time to the public. From that day on, it became a weekly event: “the Tuesday market.”
I am proud to say, as a participant and volunteer that our market is alive, beautiful, and growing. As a community, we have worked together and we all have brought something to the table, something we want to share. Thank you everyone, and Happy Birthday!
Our next classes will begin soon, and we will continue building greenhouses.
